Salt Line

Salt Line is a collection of cuffs, earrings, rings and a single pendant developed from the tide marks left on a shoreline after the water has gone. Each piece is built from folded sheet silver, hammered and stacked in bands so the surface reads as sediment: a ridge of texture, then a smooth run, then another ridge, repeating the way a beach records each retreating tide as a faint line above the last. Some bands are left bright, others are oxidised dark or plated in 24k gold, so the banding is not just physical but tonal, one metal state laid against another. The layering is the construction and the meaning at once — nothing is added to imitate a coastline, the coastline is simply how silver behaves when it is folded and hammered under repeated pressure. Worn, the cuffs shift as the arm moves, catching light differently along each band rather than as one flat surface, so the piece never quite settles into a single reading. The earrings and ring carry the same banding at a smaller scale, close to the skin. Salt Line is not a literal picture of a coastline; it is an attempt to hold the accumulation and erosion of a shoreline in a fixed, wearable object, and to ask what it means to carry a record of change on the body, somewhere between permanent and worn away.
